DAYS OF AFFLICTION

Wearing on my soul today
Burning in my eyes today
My throat is dry, the sky is gray
Why am I so tired

I don't care if the sun goes down
I don't care if they bomb this town
I don't care if this is a bad rhyme
I can't be my best all the time

I don't care if the city burns
I don't care if the world still turns
I don't care if the wound won't close
I don't care if the wind still blows

Crawling in my blood today
A vaguely sick feeling today
Something's wrong, but I can't say
Why I'm so tired

I don't care if I win the war
I don't care if I'm drunk and poor
I don't care if the oil's gone
I don't care if I live till dawn

I don't care if the power fails
I don't care if the storm still wails
I don't care if my dreams all die
I don't care enough to cry

Aching like a bruise today
Breaking every bone today
I'm crumpled up and thrown away
I'm just so tired

I don't care if the phone won't ring
I don't care if I can't sing
I don't care about anything
I just don't care

I don't care if my heartbeat slows
I don't care if my weakness shows
I don't care if I laugh again
I'll die someday, I don't care when

Weighing down my heart today
Poisoning my tears today
I could sleep for years and bleed for days
I'm so tired

circa 2003.
